Silicone is a product widely used when waterproofing exterior expansion joints, due to its characteristics, this material can withstand expansion and contraction of up to 300% over a wide range of maximum and minimum temperatures, and a great power of fixation on all surfaces. These properties make it ideal for use in in sealing aluminum doors and windows. As with all products there are different qualities, neutral silicone being the most valued because of the absence of solvents, silicone product used in old or low quality. One of the main advantages of high quality neutral silicone for the end consumer, it is easy cleaning, since with a damp cloth with soap to clean the board recovers the initial appearance, without much effort. Silicones can be produced in any color, so adapting to each finish of each structure. In PONSICO s.c.p. we have always placed high end silicones, which despite their high cost, sometimes double the price than other silicones, we are more than profitable as well as accidental water avoid us because of their excellent properties, the client satisfied with easy cleaning, which in turn will generate more slaughter volume. In our company we also use it to seal the sheet of glass on its outer face, since this small gesture generates better results in our doors and windows in the test suite, improving its resistance to wind load, watertightness, performance acoustic and air permeability. This is usually black, and the other resembling rubber seals of the structure. This glass seal also contributes to giving strength to the structure preventing it sag over the years, and prevent falling in case of glass breakage. In the first picture we can see some of the silicones used by us. The joints are more or less uniform as a function of surface roughness and the working comfort, being together almost perfectly smooth surfaces easily accessible.
