5 July, 2021Your garden is not just an extension of your home: when it is designed to connect indoor and outdoor living, it can become a valuable ‘outdoor room’ for relaxing day or night.
With summer upon us, there really is no better time to start thinking about how to open up our homes to the garden, terrace or balcony to enjoy more time for outdoor dining or relaxing in the sun with friends and family. The easiest way to connect your home to the outdoors (and increase its value or saleability at the same time) is through aluminium balconies.
However, with so many styles, the choice can be confusing. Here’s our guide to help you choose the best option for installing an aluminium balcony to your home.
Folding doors
Folding balcony doors have rapidly gained popularity in recent years. The main benefit of folding balcony doors is their double folds, which allow the glass panels to open fully to blur the boundaries between the house and garden and create a wonderfully light and airy space.
The opening of this type of door can be either inwards or outwards, depending on the style and design of the property where it is installed. The configuration is flexible as it can be arranged so that all panels fold to one side or split to fold in on both sides.
Important tip: Folding doors fold outwards encroach less on the interior space.
Sliding doors
The sliding door balcony is the most popular choice in contemporary homes and for some time now, new designs have been overtaking the old. As they consist of a larger expanse of glass to provide a greater range of light, and their narrow frames ensure less visual intrusion of views to the outside. Here you have one of our works made with this type of balcony.
Sliding doors are the most excellent option for entrances with large openings, as their glass panels can be wider than those of hinged or bi-fold doors.
Tip: If you have too little space for a hinged opening, sliding doors are the perfect solution for small spaces.
Hinged door
This type of model is the most recommended as far as watertightness is concerned, thanks to its three rubber seals that ensure total watertightness. Being able to open its panels 180 degrees, it allows its panels to open wide, allowing a great ventilation of the room. It is also easy to clean as the entire glass panel can be accessed from both sides.
There are many varieties of casement doors that can be used according to the needs in each case, such as the tilt-and-turn, which allow a top opening with a gesture on the handle to be able to ventilate without taking up space.
Always choose aluminium as the material for your balcony window as it is an investment purchase that will add value to your home. Strong, durable, thermally efficient and able to comfortably hold large panes of glass, aluminium is ideal for all types of doors.
